Bangladesh saw one of its deadliest days of unrest on August 4 as hundreds of thousands of protesters clashed with government supporters, calling for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down. The violence has intensified, with at least 100 people killed in the latest confrontations, including 14 police officers. This brings the total death toll since the protests began in July to at least 283, with reports suggesting the number could be higher.

The violence, which initially erupted over civil service job quotas, has broadened into a larger anti-government movement. In Dhaka, despite a nationwide curfew, sustained gunfire was reported. The capital saw at least 12 fatalities, with an additional 18 deaths in Sirajganj.
